Safe Environment

Safe Environment for Children Policy

All adult persons, 18 years of age or older, whether clergy, members of the consecrated life or laity, who as employees or volunteers, act in the name of the Church under the auspices of the Diocese of Pittsburgh or of Saint Peter Parish, must adhere to these policies. If you are interested in volunteering in any parish ministry, you must do the following: (1.) Obtain a PA Criminal Record Check. To obtain these clearances you must create a file in the diocesan database at or stop by the parish office for a form; (2.) Obtain a PA Child Abuse History Clearance [a separate application is required to be completed]; (3.) Obtain a fingerprinting report [due to recent changes in the Child Protection Services Law in Pennsylvania, fingerprinting is required for all employees and volunteers. Volunteers who resided in Pennsylvania continuously for the prior ten (10) years and who completed a Volunteer Disclosure Statement are exempt]. Background checks are to be renewed every five (5) years; (4.) Return the signed "acknowledgement of receipt" pages from the Diocesan Code of Pastoral Conduct, and Reporting of Child Abuse and The Child Protective Services Law of Pennsylvania to the parish office; (5.) Receive training for Protecting God’s Children Program for Adults that can now be completed online. A certificate of completion is to be forwarded to the parish Safe Environment Coordinator, Patricia Kammersell, Director of Faith Formation 412-321-3186.
